Joey Logano, the Team Penske superstar, has cemented his place among the NASCAR greats with his third NASCAR Cup Series championship. The #22 Ford Mustang driver now stands shoulder to shoulder with some of the sport’s most iconic names—despite the controversial circumstances surrounding his latest title.

But beyond the celebration, Logano’s latest triumph has also handed him the perfect comeback to one of his most vocal critics—Tony Stewart.

Old Rivalries Resurface: Logano vs. Stewart

With both Logano and Stewart now tied at three championships apiece, the echoes of their heated past have resurfaced. During the 2024 NASCAR Championship Media Day, Logano had hinted that if he clinched his third title, he’d love to have a conversation with Stewart—possibly to settle some old scores.

But when asked whether that conversation had happened, Logano’s response was classic:

“I haven’t got to talk to him. I have not (laughing),” Logano quipped.

When pressed on whether he still wanted that talk, the Connecticut native’s answer was crystal clear:

“I would look forward to that, absolutely (laughing).”

From Heated Fights to Mutual Respect?

The Logano-Stewart rivalry is one of NASCAR’s most iconic clashes of personality and background. The two drivers couldn’t have had more different paths to the top.

  • Stewart, a fierce and aggressive driver, built his career through grit and raw talent.
  • Logano, once dubbed “Silver Spoon,” faced accusations of benefiting from family wealth and early sponsorship support.

But while both carried reputations as aggressive competitors, their approaches were poles apart—Stewart’s was about hard but respectful racing, while Logano was once the reckless young gun who ruffled feathers.

The 2013 Flashpoint: When Logano and Stewart Threw Punches

Their feud peaked in 2013 at Auto Club Speedway when Logano blocked Stewart on a crucial restart. The move sparked one of the most infamous post-race brawls in NASCAR history.

Punches were thrown. Words were exchanged. The rivalry ignited.

Stewart, nearing the end of his Cup Series driving career, saw Logano as an entitled, privileged racer who had it easy. That’s when the nickname “Silver Spoon” was born.

Has time changed everything?

Fast forward to 2024, and Logano has proven his worth, earning his place in the NASCAR elite. Even Stewart seems to have softened his stance.

“It’s funny now. For the majority of them (the Cup Series drivers), I get along with now,” Logano said in a 2023 interview, hinting at a shift in dynamics.

The question remains—does Logano still want to rub his third title in Stewart’s face? Maybe.

But the fact that he hasn’t yet speaks volumes. Both men have grown, matured, and evolved—from fiery rivals to two of the most successful drivers in their respective fields.
